gaps

In adults, gaps that form between teeth, called diastemas, are sometimes the result of having too much space in the jaw for the size of the teeth. Usually these spaces are most noticeable when they are located between the two upper front teeth – but they can appear between any two teeth. Large gaps can cause poor tooth alignment, resulting in various problems with your teeth or your bite.

Sometimes front teeth gaps are the result of habitual behaviors, such as subconsciously pushing the tongue up against the front teeth. In children with permanent teeth, thumb-sucking or pacifier use can alter the alignment of the teeth, as well as the proper growth of the mouth. It is important to discuss any gaps in your teeth with us at Sweet Tooth to determine if there is cause or desire for treatment.
